“The machete is how the ukulele was – and is – in Portugal. There is a beautiful repertoire for it, thanks to Manuel Morais for discovering it. I have a machete on order from Carlos Jorge Pereira Rodriguez in Madeira. It is even SMALLER than a ukulele. To get a similar tuning I had to lower the first string by a tone, and put a low octave fourth string on. Hope you like it. Lots more to come when I get my machete! Note the technique of playing many runs and sequences of thirds with the thumb…apparently a machete technique.”
